Since employee actions, either knowingly or unknowingly, may place the Detroit Air Transport Lodge 141 at risk legally, ethically, and morally, the following policy has been established:
Computers:

Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141 issued computers, at all times, remain the property of Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141.

Employees are responsible for proper handling and reasonable care of their computers, especially laptop computers and all Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141 issued equipment and materials.

The employee whom a computer is assigned shall at all times remain responsible for any improper use of the computer and/or improper materials discovered on the computer.
Electronic Mail:

Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141 maintains a computer system to assist in the conduct of business within the Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141. All e-mail messages composed, sent, received or stored on the computer system are(and remain) the property of the Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141. They are not the private property of the employee.

The E-mail system is not to be used to send offensive, sexually suggestive, obscene, lewd, demeaning or disruptive messages. This includes, but is not limited to, messages that are inconsistent with the IAM’s Equal Employment Opportunity and Anti-Harassment policies. Moreover, the E-mail system is not to be used to solicit or proselytize for commercial ventures or for religious, political or other non-job-related causes.

The Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141 reserves and intends to exercise the right to review, audit, intercept, access, disclose and use all messages created, received, or sent over its computer system for any purpose except to the extent such messages are protected by law. The contents of E-mail may be disclosed and used by the Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141 to protect its rights and/or property without the permission of the employee, in the Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141 discretion.

The Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141 reserves the right to disclose any communications to law enforcement officials without prior notice to any employee who may have sent or received such communications.

The confidentiality of any message should not be assumed. Even when a message is erased, it is still possible to retrieve and read that message. Further, passwords must be disclosed to the Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141 or they are invalid and cannot be used.

Employees not involved in maintenance or operation of the Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141’s computer system are not authorized to retrieve or read any E-mail not sent to them. Supervisors may be authorized to review the communications of the employees they supervise to determine whether there have been breaches of security or violations of Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141 policy.

Conducting Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141 business from a personal or Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141-owned computer is subject to the same policies that apply to use from within the Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141 facilities. Any employee who violates the Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141’s E-mail policy shall be subject to discipline, up to and including termination.
Internet:

The Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141 computer network, including is connection to the Internet, is to be used for business- related purposes. Any unauthorized use of the Internet is strictly prohibited. Unauthorized use includes, but is not limited to, connecting, posting or downloading pornographic material; engaging in computer “hacking” and other related activities; attempting to disable or compromise the security of information contained on the Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141’s computers in manner that interferes with its business purpose.

Employees should not send highly confidential information through the Internet without encryption. Anything sent through the Internet passes through a number of different computer systems, all with different levels of security. The confidentiality of messages may be compromised at any point along the way.

Because postings placed on the Internet may display the Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141’s address, make certain before posting information on the Internet that it reflects the standards and polices of the Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141. Under no circumstances should information of a confidential, sensitive or otherwise proprietary nature be placed on the Internet.

Information posted or viewed on the Internet may constitute published material. Therefore, reproduction of information posted or otherwise available over the Internet may be done only by express permission of the author.

Use of Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141-provided Internet access from a personal or Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141-owned computer is subject to the same policies that apply to use from with the Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141 facilities. Any employee who violates the Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141’s Internet policy shall be subject to discipline, up to and including termination.
Software/Copyright:
The Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141 forbids the copying and distribution of unlicensed software or the copying and/or distribution of software that violates any licensing agreement. The copying of software to distribute, or the acceptance of copied software to avoid payment or other fees, is a criminal offense under the copyright laws of the United States. Violation of such laws can result in substantial criminal and civil penalties.In order to comply with the law, all employees must maintain proofs of purchase for any software they use or install that was not provided by the Detroit Air Transport Local Lodge 141. Employees must also refrain from copying software for distribution to friends or co-workers and from asking for or accepting unlicensed copies of software.
Additionally, all electronic communications or postings shall comply with IAM Official Circular 807 and any other IAM official policies and guidelines. Specifically, special care shall be taken to protect and comply with copyrights, trademark, and liable law as well as to be in compliance with all DOL requirements and restrictions on political postings.
Any employee found in violation of this policy may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
